Play Like a Girl+ Piedmont*

Empowering Girls+ to Play SportsTIOTS

The City of Piedmont is hosting its third annual Play Like a Girl Piedmont event on Sunday, May 5th, at Piedmont High School's Witter Field.

It's no surprise to you that girls who play sports have better standardized test results than non athletes or that female athletes go on to earn 7% higher annual wages in their non-athlete peers. Sports also help boost self-esteem, and PRD's goal with Play Like a Girl+ is to empower, support and teach them that ANYTHING is achievable.

This event is a fun interactive day of getting girls ages 2–18 pumped up to try out new sports. Athletes and coaches from approximately 20 different sports organizations will be offering hands-on activities so girls in our community can practice pitching, throwing, hitting, shooting, and so much more!  This year's event will feature live demonstrations, professional and Olympic athletes, giveaways, and fabulous raffle prizes.

Don't miss the chance to meet professional boxer, Dalia "La Pantera" Gomez, and 5-time Olympic Gold medalist, Dana Vollmer-Grant, at the event. Both athletes will be demonstrating their sport at their station and will also be leading a Q&A for participants to ask their questions!

New Event Features

The Piedmont Fire Department will host a booth so girls+ can actively see what it takes to be a firefighter!

Sports Equipment Swap: PRD has partnered with Dress Best for Less to offer a brand-new portion to the event. NEW this year — bring your gently used sports equipment (no clothing please e.g. socks, jerseys, etc.) that is too small, or your child no longer plays and take home an item for a new sport or the next size up! Each child that donates to the Sports Equipment Swap will be entered into a special raffle.

To see the event in action and get a feel for the afternoon, take a look at this promotional video with highlights from the 2023 event.
