Animal Services & Dog Licensing
The Piedmont Animal Control Officers are responsible for enforcement of all state laws and city ordinances relating to animals, including: pick-up and transportation of sick or injured animals, investigation dog bites and barking dog complaints, issuing citations or warnings for leash and licensing violations, capturing feral cats, and investigating cases of animal cruelty.
An Animal Control Officer is on-duty to issue dog licenses on Wednesdays between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. A Dog License and Off-Leash Permit Application (PDF) is available on the City’s website or at the Police Department. A dog license may be obtained by mail. Mail the application with proof of vaccination from your veterinarian to the Police Department.
Dog owners must clean up after their dogs in all areas of the city. Litter disposal bags are available, free of charge, in each city park.
All dogs in Piedmont must be leashed when in public, unless the pet has an Off-Leash Permit and is in an off-leash recreation area. You may apply for an Off-Leash Permit for your pet, which can be used in the off-leash areas of Blair Park, Dracena Park, Linda Park, and Piedmont Park.
