What We Do 

The Planning & Building Department is one of the City's land-based departments. Its roles and responsibilities are related to the development and use of real property. The department prepares policies and programs to guide development, it reviews proposed development projects, and it issues permits related to construction and use. The goals are to advance quality building design and construction, to promote the wise use of land for a healthy and safe environment, and to build a great community.

About Planning 

The Planning Division reviews applications and issues permits for design review, conditional uses, accessory dwelling units, short-term rentals, wireless communication facilities and various other land use activities. The Planning Division also develops and implements policy documents related to land use, including the General Plan, the Climate Action Plan, the Pedestrian & Bicycle Master Plan, the Hazard Mitigation Plan and the solid waste services.

About Building 

The Building Division consists of three primary functions:

  • It regulates the application, processing, issuance and completion of building permits.
  • It assures that construction within the City of Piedmont is in accordance with the current adopted building codes and city ordinances.

  • It coordinates with the Planning Division to assure that specified conditions of approval are implemented.
