Linda Off-Leash Dog Area Remains Temporarily Closed as of March 17th

The Linda off-leash dog park remains temporarily closed as of March 17, 2023. Recent rains have made the hillside extremely slippery and unsafe for both people and dogs.
Staff are actively monitoring park conditions and will re-open the dog area as soon as it is possible to do so safely.
The City of Piedmont plans to temporarily re-open the Linda off-leash dog park on February 20, 2023. The City will keep the dog area open as long as it is possible to do so safely, but community members should expect future temporary closures following rain events.
The City temporarily closed the off-leash dog area in December 2022 due to hazardous conditions created by the first in a series of heavy rains. Slippery conditions, soil erosion, and unstable walking surfaces were exacerbated during the weeks of severe storms in January 2023, forcing an extended closure.
Since the storms ended, Public Works staff have been regularly inspecting the site to determine when the dog area could re-open. Staff have spent significant time working to mitigate the issues that caused the closure, primarily by removing a significant accumulation of loose soil and exposed roots that could be hazardous to dogs.
It is likely that the park will need to temporarily close and that this maintenance work will need to be done after most, if not all, future rain events.
The City appreciates the importance of this space to the community. Public Works staff are actively exploring medium and long term mitigation options to ensure its continued viability.
