Piedmont Fire apparatus
The Piedmont Fire Department has been a leader in firefighting technology since our inception in 1907. At that time many urban fire departments relied on horse drawn fire engines, while Piedmont Fire has been fully mechanized from the beginning.
Community investment in cutting edge technology is a long-standing value still embraced by Piedmont.
Our apparatus are reliable, high quality, purpose built and efficient. They serve as a force multiplier for our small department in a large urban area.
We staff 3 apparatus at all times:
- One type 1 fire engine
- One fire truck
- One type 2 rescue ambulance
Our full fleet of vehicles includes:
- Chief's command vehicle
- Reserve type 1 fire engine
- Reserve type 2 rescue ambulance
- Type 6 (wildland) fire engine
- Utility pickup truck
Medic 1
Medic 1 is a 2018 Leader type 2 ambulance. Medic 1 responds to over 700 emergency medical calls and fires every year. The 2 firefighters assigned to Medic 1 are state licensed and county accredited paramedics. They perform and provide:
- Complete cardiac care including resuscitation
- Defibrillation
- Monitoring
- Pharmacological care
- Trauma care
- Injury stabilization
- Diagnostic procedures
Medic 1 also assists in countywide mutual aid when significant events happen or an unusually high call volume depletes regional resources. Surrounding fire departments provide this same help to us during our time of need.
Engine 1
Engine 1 is a 2019 Pierce Enforcer PUC type 1 fire engine. It is staffed with 3 firefighters and has:

Truck 1
Truck 1 is a 2014 Suphan SL-75 fire truck. Truck 1 is equipped with:

It is also responsible for medical calls when Medic 1 and Engine 1 are already assigned to other emergencies.
Chief 1
Chief 1 is a 2023 Ford F150 Lighting. It’s Piedmont’s first electric vehicle, helping reduce our carbon footprint and paving the way for future EVs in our fleet.
We commonly refer to it as the "Chief's Buggy." It is assigned to the Fire Chief for daily and emergency use. Chief 1 is equipped with:
- Radios for local, county and state communications
- Mobile computer
- Systems and tools for managing incidents
Engine 601
