More short-term parking in Civic Center ahead of Community Pool opening

Published March 31, 2026

As the April 11 opening of the new Community Pool nears, the City is adding more time-limited parking and increasing parking enforcement in the Civic Center. The goal is to keep short-term parking available for people visiting the pool and other Civic Center destinations, including City Hall, Veterans Hall, school sites, the Alan Harvey Theater, 801 Magnolia, and local businesses.

Starting the week of April 6:

  • Parking on Bonita Avenue between Magnolia and Vista Avenues that is currently unrestricted will mostly become time-limited, primarily 2-hour spaces.
  • Some employee parking spaces on Magnolia Avenue are being converted to 2-hour visitor parking.
  • Three new ADA parking spaces will be marked – two in front of the pool entrance, and one in front of the Corey Reich Tennis Center.

Cumulatively, these changes will more than double short-term parking along Magnolia, Bonita, and Vista Avenues – with a total of 30 new time-limited spaces.

The City will begin updating parking signage on Friday, April 3. Increased parking enforcement will begin the week of April 6.

Planned for summer 2026: Reconfiguration of Bonita Avenue to one-way traffic

These parking updates are the first phase of a broad plan to improve the parking experience for Civic Center visitors. A second phase, planned for summer 2026, would:

  • convert Bonita Avenue between Vista Avenue and Oakland Avenue to one-way traffic (northbound toward Oakland Avenue)
  • eliminate the school drop-off zone on Bonita
  • add additional ADA, time-limited, and employee parking spaces on Bonita

The City Council approved the circulation and parking changes for the Civic Center in May 2025 after several months of discussion. The discussion was informed by a community survey completed by over 500 residents.
