Learn about projects shaping Piedmont’s future: Planning & Building Open House
Published August 1, 2025
Meet City staff and learn about a variety of projects underway related to housing development, sustainability, wildfire resilience, and more at an upcoming open house hosted by the City’s Planning & Building Department:
Open House: Planning & Building Policy Projects
Thursday, August 21, 6:30-8:30pm
Veterans Memorial Building, 401 Highland Avenue
This event brings together multiple policy development initiatives under a single roof, offering residents a “one stop shop” to learn about what’s in the works and how they can provide input before decisions are made.
The “open house” format invites attendees to drop in at any time, working their way through a series of five informational stations at their own pace. At each station, attendees will be able to speak directly with City staff, ask questions, and get more information about project timelines and opportunities for input.
Featured projects include:
-
Moraga Canyon Specific Plan: A comprehensive plan for developing city-owned land along Moraga Avenue into a new neighborhood featuring affordable and market-rate housing, road safety improvements, and an expanded Coaches Field.
-
Objective Design Standards: Clear, measurable design rules that will govern new residential construction, including accessory dwelling units and SB9 developments.
-
Streamlined Business Permitting: Proposed zoning updates that will allow certain types of businesses to open through a ministerial process, avoiding a lengthy public hearing process.
-
Building Electrification Strategy: A roadmap for how the City can support residents to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from their homes by replacing gas appliances with clean, electric alternatives.
- Building and Fire Code updates: Local amendments to state building codes to support wildfire-resistant construction and update Piedmont’s energy efficiency “Reach Codes.”
It’s a chance for residents to explore the breadth of policy work underway, then drill down to focus on the projects that interest them most.
This event is free, and no registration is required. Light refreshments will be served.
