Candidate filing dates and deadlines
Filing deadlines are strict. It is a good idea to file your documents early, so you have time to correct mistakes before the deadline.
The following table shows the filing timeline for the November 3, 2026 general election. You can expect a similar timeline for future elections.

| July 13, 2026 |
Filing Opens. You can now pick-up nomination paperwork from the City Clerk’s office. You can pick up your paperwork by appointment from July 13 to August 7.

| August 7, 2026 |
Deadline: File your nomination documents by 5pm.
If an incumbent who is eligible to seek reelection does not file nomination papers by this deadline, the filing period for that office only is extended to August 12, 2026.

| September 7, 2026 |
Write-in candidate filing opens. If running as a write-in candidate, you can now pick-up nomination paperwork from the City Clerk’s office.

| October 20, 2026 |
Deadline: If running as a write-in candidate, file your nomination documents by 5pm.

| November 3, 2026 |
Election day– polls close at 8pm.
